The government has told the Lok Sabha that not a single Rs 2,000 note has been printed in the last two years.  The number of notes has also declined.


Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur gave information in the Lok Sabha regarding the 2000 note


In 2018, 336.2 crore notes of Rs 2,000 were in circulation


In 2021, the number of 2000 notes decreased to 249.9 crore


Is the central government going to close the 2000 pink note?  A reply on the issue was tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday on behalf of the government.  With the government's response, the 2000 note is starting to close.  However, no official announcement has been made.


Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, said that 336.2 crore notes of Rs 2,000 were in circulation as on March 30, 2018, while on February 26, 2021, the number dropped to 249.9 crore.


No order has been issued for printing Rs 2,000 notes in 2020-21.


Anurag Thackeray said the decision to print any currency note was taken on the advice of the RBI to meet the demand for transactions of the people. He said no order was issued for printing Rs 2,000 notes in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
