The Election Commission of India (English: Election Commission of India) is an autonomous, federal body established by the Constitution and responsible for all electoral processes in India. Free and fair elections are held in India under the supervision of the Commission at intervals appropriate to the Constitution. The Election Commission has the power to conduct, direct and control the parliamentary, state legislatures of India and the elections of the President and Vice-President of India.

The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners are appointed by the President of India. The term of office of the Chief Election Commissioner is 6 years or 6 years, whichever comes first. While the term of other Election Commissioners is 5 years or 6 years, whichever comes first.
